The best tools and apps to save you money and improve your game

Tools and apps are an important part of the poker landscape and offer great value for money while improving your bottom line.

Whether you’re looking for the best online poker app, something to track your poker performance, manage your bankroll, or find the best places to play live poker, there’s an app to help you.

Here are the best poker apps and tools on the market.

Flopzilla

  • $25

This may be the best $25 you ever spend on poker.

Flopzilla is an incredibly powerful tool that allows you to analyse hand ranges away from the table. Flopzilla lets you quickly and easily work out how a range hits a board. You can work out if your play was profitable and it is a wonderful teaching resource for any aspiring poker player.

There is no follow-up cost or added price for additional versions - $25 is all you have to pay, and we highly recommend you do.

Poker Bankroll Tracker

  • Free (with ads)

Do you ever own an app and wonder what you ever did without it? That's Poker Bankroll Tracker.

Poker Bankroll Tracker allows you to input all of your poker results and monitor your poker finances.

Keep a close eye on all of your poker income and outgoings with this easy-to-use app. You can itemise every tournament or cash game series you have played, your profit or loss from that session, how long you played, where, and when you played.

Once you've used the app for a while, you'll be able to see your ROI in different games, and keep track of your results across the years, helping you to track your poker finances and measure your results.

We've no affiliation with Poker Bankroll Tracker - but we love the app.

GGPoker*

  • Free

  • +18 only

We're only going to recommend one poker site in our apps and tools list and it has to be the market leader.

The GGPoker app* is the most user-friendly available which is why it's made our list.

They also have an excellent welcome bonus scheme, Honeymoon Missions, which can really help build your bankroll.

For playing poker on your phone, there's no contest. At the moment, it has to be GGPoker*.

Poker Tracking Software: Holdem Manager 3* or Poker Tracker 4*

Poker tracking software is a must-have for any serious poker player. It keeps track of every online hand of poker you have played and allows you to measure, evaluation and analyse your play.

If you think your AJs game is off, dig in to the numbers and see if you're right. Always losing with AK? Find out what's really going on.

You can also track the behaviours of other players with its HUD (Heads Up Display) which is completely customisable.

Holdem Manager and Poker Tracker are the two main products on the market and whichever you prefer is down to personal choice - they both are similarly priced and have great features. Both also offer free trials to let you see if they are right for you.

Poker Tracking Software could revolutionise your game and remember - your opponents will already be using it.

Poker Atlas

  • Free (with ads)

Imagine an app that told you everything about the nearest poker tournaments taking place in your area. That's the power of Poker Atlas. This app's usefulness really depends on where you are. If you're in Las Vegas looking for a game, it's the most important app in your pocket. If you're in the Scottish Highlands or in a casino-less American state, you might not find it quite so useful.

Poker Atlas tells you the start time, location, structure and entry fee for poker tournaments, saving you a huge amount of time and effort.

Vegas has gone all-in on the app and it now allows you to add yourself to cash table waiting lists as well.

The app is free to use provided you don't mind an intro advert.

Starling Bank Account

  • Free

Opening a separate bank account for poker is a great way to keep track of your results and increase your financial discipline - something that we strongly support.

Starling is our bank of choice for this because of the flexibility they offer. You can set up separate "Spaces" within your account that allows you to separate pockets of money - perfect for setting aside your buy-ins before a trip.

Speaking of poker trips, if you're planning a foreign holiday, Starling allows you to use your card in a different country without incurring foreign exchange fees.

Starling also gives you a small amount of interest on any money you have in their account, so your poker money can be working for you between buy-ins. It's a tiny amount, so if you have an amount you're looking to save, this won't be the best option for you, but if it's sitting waiting to be used, there's no harm in it having a small amount of interest added.

Equilab

  • Free

Equilab is a poker equity calculator from PokerStrategy.com which allows you to calculate hand ranges against one another. It teaches you to make better plays pre and post-flop by helping you calculate your equity away from the table.

It can take a little effort to learn, but once you're using the software to work out what your opponent is doing, and finding ways to counter them, you will love what Equilab can do you for your game.

There is a Power-Equilab for $42/year which includes additional features, but we think the free version will be enough for most poker players.

GTO+

  • $75

Poker solvers aren't really our thing, but if you're in the market for one, we'd recommend GTO+. At $75 it's not the cheapest, but it's the only one you'll need.

A poker solver is a calculator that generates GTO (Game Theory Optimal) strategies for players to use. We don't recommend them as we would argue, controversially, that they only work well in higher stakes poker games.

But if you're looking for a solver, GTO+ does everything you'd expect a solver to do, for a fair upfront fee that won't break the bank.

Just please don't try to implement GTO strategies in your local pub game. It won't work.

myVegas

  • Free

  • +18 only

If you're planning a trip to Las Vegas, get this app a few months beforehand and it could save you a packet.

It's part of the MLife rewards programme which covers the MGM, Luxor, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay casinos.

The myVegas app is a free slot machine that gives you loyalty points every time you play. The more you play, the more reward points you rack up, which you can spend in Vegas on show ticket discounts, meals, buffets, and other benefits.

The app gives you a finite amount of coins to bet with and provided you don't run out of coins, it won't cost you a penny to play. We don't recommend paying to top-up - just use them until you lose them and enjoy whatever bonus comes your way.

Read the terms and conditions of each reward carefully and watch out for blackout days where the rewards can't be used.

Aside from that, there's no downside to using this free-to-use app.

ICMIZER

  • Free version available

  • $80 per year

ICM (Independent Chip Model) is an important concept to familiarise yourself with. It is a calculation that allows you to work out how equity your chips have during a poker tournament.

It’s a key part of poker and being able to calculate it when making deals at the table is very important. However, at $80 per year, ICMIZER is pretty steep.

But there is a free-to-use version on their homepage which we would recommend using. It's no-frills but it does the job.

As for the $80 version, it's excellent, but it's definitely not cheap.

You'll need a lot of ICM-ized deals to cover that cost and we'd recommend spending your dough on other tools first.
